Since our trip to Puerto Rico is coming up fast, I’ve been nonstop thinking about the beach. What to wear, what to do, what to read, what to drink. All important questions. I’ve also been thinking nonstop about my most favorite beaches of those I’ve visited in the world. I still think I am more of a mountain person than a beach person in general, (more on this another time) but I still am always excited and giddy to head to shore and on the water.
The awesome part about the beach, as a category of geography, is the wide range of environments the word beach covers. Sandy beaches, pebbly beaches, cliff-y beaches, black beaches, etc. Let’s see what I’m talking about:
Best Beach for Waves: Kuta Beach, Bali Indonesia
Best Black Sand Beach: Santorini, Greece
Best Off-Beach Snorkeling: Gili Trawangan, Lombok Indonesia
Best Beach to Photograph: Tulum, Mexico
Most Secluded Beach: Maya Bay, Koh Phi Phi Thailand
Best Cold Weather Beach: Liger Bay, Abel Tasman New Zealand
Best Beach Sunset: Ao Nai Wok, Koh Pha Ngan, Thailand
Best National Shoreline: Abel Tasman Track, New Zealand
Best Rocky Beach – South Koh Jam, Thailand
Best Pebbly Beach: Kidds Bush DOC site, Lake Hawea, New Zealand
Annie’s Favorite Beach in the Whole Wide World: The Entire Island of Gili Meno, Lombok, Indonesia
