The Milford Sound is an easy place to visit after completing the Routeburn Track. The Routeburn Track is one of New Zealand’s most famous tramps and leads lucky hikers through both Mt. Aspiring National Park and Fiordlands National Park. If you start the journey at the Routeburn Shelter (near Queenstown), the end of the hike will leave you at The Divide, only a short hour’s drive from the Milford Sound.
The day we finished the Routeburn Track may have been sunny and warm on the trail, but it was cloudy and ominous on the sound. We had peeks of sun here and there, but in general, the mood of the Sound that day was, well, moody.
