Italy

Travel Repeat: Italy

Like I’ve mentioned before, I don’t often repeat-visit countries. There are so many unique places on this amazing planet – I want to experience as many as possible. But there are a few, just a few, that require more than one visit (like Costa Rica!). Whether it’s because of a deep love or because of size or because of great diversity, some countries pull me back in with a force like gravity.

Italy is one of those places. It will show you something new with every visit. This is not only because each region has nearly it’s own culture entirely, but also because there are so many amazing things to see and taste.

This year I returned to Italy after 16 years. As I teenager, I paid attention mostly to the historical sights. This time, my experience was more about culture: the people, the details, the food, and the drinks.

I am excited to write about this return trip to Italy – a country of which I may never tire. Lots of stories and travel tips in the works for the blog. In meantime, I hope you enjoy these snapshots of my trip. (which took me to Rome, Naples, Pompeii/Mt Vesuvius, and the Amalfi Coast)

I’ve never been to Italy, but would love to go. Your pictures make it look pretty great! I’m not one to repeat destinations either, but Colombia is one place I really fell in love with and know I’ll revisit some day.

thanks! Repeating places has been more rewarding than I thought it would be for sure. I’ve also paired return trips with new trips – this Italy trip was paired with Morocco.
I would highly recommend considering a return to Colombia! It will be a cool experience to see it all again thru a different lens.

There’s a quote attributed to Giuseppe Verdi that I *almost* agree with – “You may have the universe, if I may have Italy”. It really is a great place for repeat visits. Though I’ve spent more time in Italy than any country other than my own, I’ve never been south of Rome and still really want to visit the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii.

I love the picture of the dapper old man with all the stars hanging over the street. What a lovely moment to capture!

I love that quote. And you should definitely head south of Rome. I though Amalfi was really beautiful and entirely different from the Italy of Tuscany and Bologna…

Thanks – that was a kismet kind of shot…
